Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The environmentalist organization Green Community Forum (FKH), which supports Banjarmasin as a green city, re-greening by planting lotus in rivers.
About 30 members of the FKH working hard to plant around a hundred seeds of lotus on the river at Jalan A Yani Kilometer 6 Banjarmasin, just in front of the TVRI Kalsel Saturday.
"We believe the lotus plant overgrown in rivers that divides the city area, then this city will be beautiful and shady" said Akhmad Arifin, a FKH member who led the planting.
Arifin said, rather than river water in the city looks cloudy and dirty or overgrown with hyacinth or keyapu better planted with purple, red, or white lotus then rivers definitely become beautiful.
According to him, FKH had several times planting lotus in Banjarmasin rivers. Planting had been done before behind the mosque Sabilal Muhtadin, Unlam, and the last at Jalan Gatoet Subroto.
Planting is certainly in the rivers which is not passed by the boats. It will interfere if planting lotus in the rivers still serves as traffic flow.
Lotus been a selected in addition to wonderful this plant is useful to purify river water, eliminate the fishy smell, and is a habitat for aquatic biota such as fish. It also can be vegetables and medicines.
The important thing lotus can also absorb pollutants (air toxics) and produce oxygen that is needed by living things on this earth.
