Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Dozens of Green Community Forum (FKH) members along with River Concerned Community (Melingai) supported by Banjarmasin Water Resources and Drainage Agency jumped into Kerokan River at Jalan Jafri Zamzam, Thursday.


They were planting at least 110 seedlings of Rambai (Soneratia sp) for re-greening the area, said Deputy Chairman of the Green Community Forum (FKH) Mohamad Ary on the sidelines of the event.

The planting was preferred to patch up Rambai dead plants at the planting site six months ago. After that they move to another location on the river, he said.

Rambai proved to be able to adapt to tides and to avoid abrasion. The plant is also for beauty and a habitat for a variety of animals, including proboscis monkey, Ary, accompanied by FKH Secretary Hasan Zainuddin, told reporters at the site.

According to him, the plant seeds taken from the habitat area of Lauk River at the coastal region of Barito River, Barito Kuala District, then transported by boat to be planted by members of FKH Banjarmasin.

The mass planting is the third time. Previously FKH did similar plantings in Sungai Pangeran to beautify the arched bridge of Kayu Tangi area.

FKH planted dozens of rambai and ivory palm seeds in an effort to provide protection and beauty in the area whose dense of traffic flow.

In addition to planting rambai, FKH already planted 3,000 trambesi trees, 5,000 nut trees, 2,000 crop Lukut (bird's nest fern), hundreds of orchids, as well as the croton plant.
