Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has come up with a plethora of innovations and technology to mitigate disasters that can aid in bolstering the nation's readiness and capacity in facing disasters.
"We have to continue to move forward to develop technology, so that we can reduce and mitigate various disaster risks ahead of us in order to prepare against any possibilities of natural disasters," BRIN's Head, Laksana Tri Handoko, stated during a webinar here on Thursday.
According to Handoko, the various researches that the public can apply as precautionary and mitigatory measures against disasters are the tsunami early detection technology and mapping of areas with the likelihood of disasters occurring on the earth's surface.
Moreover, satellite imagery can be used to offer easier access to disaster handling and the use of nuclear technology in laying out climate change and blue carbon absorption data.
"In addition, it is important for us to learn and apply the human aspect of disaster, so that difficult disasters can be reflected upon both physically and non-physically," Handoko noted.
As one of Indonesia's main research institutions, the BRIN has integrated five main research entities in the country that comprise research and innovations for disaster mitigation.
These five entities are the Research and Technology Ministry (Kemristek), Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), National Atomic Energy Agency (BATAN), Indonesian Institute of Sciences, and National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN).
Handoko noted that the BRIN will continue to integrate various research and development units from several ministries and institutions.
The BRIN will also continue to produce advanced technology and innovations required to strengthen efforts to reduce and mitigate the risk of disasters in Indonesia.
