The commodities and services that contributed to inflation included purebred chicken meat, air transport tariffs, beef, oranges, cooking oil, gold jewelry, and inter-city transport fares, BPS deputy for distribution and service statistic Setianto informed here on Wednesday.
They also included rice with dishes, parking fees, live chicken, train fares, coconut, and potato, he added.
However, red chilis and bird eye chilis contributed 0.07 percent and 0.05 percent, respectively, to deflation.
He said 78 out of 90 cities surveyed for the consumer price index recorded inflation, while 12 witnessed a deflation in May this year.
The highest inflation of 1.82 percent was recorded in Manokwari, West Papua, while the lowest inflation of 0.01 percent was recorded in Tembilahan. Timika in Papua recorded the highest deflation of 0.83 percent, while Palembang in South Sumatra saw the lowest deflation of 0.02 percent.
"The high inflation in Manokwari was fueled by a rise in air transport tickets, spinach, cakalang fish, and kangkung (a kind of leafy vegetable)," he said.
The May 2021 inflation brought the calendar inflation (from January to May, 2021) to 0.90 percent and yearly inflation to 1.68 percent, he added. (INE)
