Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Cement industry PT Indocement Tunggal Tbk in Tarjun, Kotabaru District, in collaboration with the villagers of Langadai, Kelumpang Hilir, planted 5,000 mangrove seedlings to rehabilitate and maintain the ecosystem.


"Besides aiming to rehabilitate the mangrove forests, the event is open new business opportunities for the people in the Desa Binaan (fostered village)," said SSECSR Dept. Head of PT ITP Teguh Iman Basuki in Kotabaru on Monday.

He explains, Kotabaru is an area rich with mangrove forests. Therefore, it sustainability should be kept together.

Irhami also responded positively to the company's concern about the preservation of the environment, particularly in the rehabilitation of mangrove forests in the Langadai village, Kelumpang Hilir.

Regent asked the company and the community to not only develop a mangrove tour, but should be able to develop other plants in coastal, like nipa palm (nypa fruticans wurmb) and rambai or sago palm.

"Plants such nipa is known to be an ingredient in brown sugar. While the Rambai fruit for animals like proboscis. So complete in this mangrove tourist sites," he said in a press release by Indocement.

Langadai village chief, Eddy Marhadi, said the village has a population of 2,000 inhabitants, most of them fishermen. But lately, they decreased the catch, among which due to the narrowing of mangrove forest.
