Five Tons of Ducks Meat Requested to be Returned

Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Head of the South Kalimantan Animal Husbandry Agency Haji M. Sabrie Madani asked Golden Tulip to return five tons of frozen duck meat sent from Jakarta some time ago.

"In reason that Government of South Kalimantan is eradicating bird flu virus that attacks ducks," said Sabrie here on Wednesday. He deeply regrets the passing of five tons of frozen duck meat entered the city of Banjarmasin when this region is cleaning the H5N1 virus.

"Since March 12 we have stated that South Kalimantan closed to the entry of livestock or duck meat, because this area is experiencing an attack of bird flu virus," he said.

In addition, poultry, especially ducks, are also prohibited out of this area to avoid spreading the virus to other regions or provinces.

He hopes that all parties can abide by the commitment to restore South Kalimantan as bird flu free area. Closure of the entry and exit of poultry based on the approval of the central government, valid up to one month or until April 12.

"It mean there should be no duck or meat from outside the area coming to the province during the time then the 5 tons of duck meat that went into Golden Tulip should immediately be returned, " he said, noting that some other provinces are also attacked by the deadly virus.

According to Sabrie, the current bird flu virus attacks the five districts relatively subsides. There is no information regarding ducks that died suddenly after the entire farmers undertake preventive measures and cleaning cages.
