Banjarbaru , South Kalimantan ( Antaranews ) - Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) for Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, has found food in the form of snacks still using preservatives, that were dangerous to consume.

Head of Banjarbaru's Public Relations, Abdul Malik, here on Tuesday said the findings were presented by Head of Banjarmasin BPOM Dewi Purwitasari at the coordination meeting of Banjarbaru municipal government (3/3).

"The results of lab tests on several samples of snacks found containing preservatives such as Borax and Rhodamine, dangerous for human consumption," said Dewi in front of the Mayor Ruzaidin Noor.

She said, foods containing preservatives should not be consumed, as dangerous to health, especially when taken continuously. People are suggested not to eat them.

In addition to taking samples of food , BPOM also oversees a number of drug stores with the aim to monitor and supervise the drugs sold to the public.

"The results are also quite alarming because there are some drug stores that sell banned drugs. Infact, (we found) drug store that supplies illegal goods worth hundreds of millions," she said.

The findings are an input for the ranks of city government and is expected that Banjarbaru immediately followed it up by the rules and regulations, so that the public or the consumer are not harmed.

Mayor Banjarbaru Ruzaidin Noor confirmed, it instructs the related local government offices to tighten oversight of food ingredients, so that people avoid the dangers that threaten health.
