Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is preparing a strategy to file a lawsuit against the European Union (EU) decision imposing import duties on Indonesia biodiesel, Secretary General of the Trade Ministry Oke Nurwan said. The EU Commission on Monday, December 9, 2019 set duties on the import of Indonesian biodiesel from 8 to 18 percent, which is the same as the provisional tariff proposed by EU in August 2019.
"We must draft it (the strategy) first to see what we are going to sue and how the mechanism is, I cannot reveal the strategy for the biodiesel now," he said on the sidelines of a gathering to mark five years of the trade law in Jakarta Tuesday.
Earlier, the Indonesian government planned to impose retaliatory tariffs on the import of milk and its derivatives from the EU.
After all, the government will be taking the formal channel route in accordance with the trade dispute rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Nurwan said.
The EU is determined to impose anti-subsidy import duty on Indonesian biodiesel over suspected subsidy considered harmful to the EU’s producers.
The biodiesel market in the EU would touch €nine billion or US$10 billion, the European Commission has predicted. Indonesia supplies biodiesel worth an estimated €400 million to the EU.
In its press statement released by the European Commission, the EU accused Indonesia of selling biodiesel at lower prices. (INE)
