Tanjung, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Tabalong Forest Management Unit (KPH) should be honored for the presence of a national Wana Lestari assessment team on the Bumi Saraba Kawa (Tabalong's nickname).


The team from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry conducted an assessment on the non-governmental forestry extension workers (PKSM) from Tabalong District who are representing the Province of South Kalimantan to win the national Wana Lestari award.

Chairperson of the team Dwi Hastuti said the assessment included the evidence in the field and direct impact on the community on the performance of extension agents and PKSM.

"Not only the completeness of the documents, we also want to see first hand the activities of the forest farmer groups that are being fostered," explained the Head of the Extension Development Division at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

The assessment team wanted to view directly the activities of seven forest farmer groups (KTH) in the Jaro and Muara Uya Subdistricts which were assisted by the non-governmental forestry extension worker Misnariah.

KPH Tabalong head Heryadi said that the KTH were being assisted in developing pepper agroforestry and pasak bumi ((Eurycomafisa longifolia), honey cultivation, processing and packing of pasak bumi coffee.

In Garagata Village, the team saw the activities of KTH Bunga Sari and KTH Telaga Bidari in the cultivation of honey kelulut and orchids.

Head of Forest Utilization Section Aidil Fahruraji said today (3/7) the same assessment will be carried out in Sulangai village and Solan Village for PKSM Rahmadi along with two KTH assisted by him.
