Head of the Banjarmasin Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BBPOM), Dr. H Muhammad Guntur asked doctors in the city to be very careful and selectively prescribed sedatives to patients.
He was speaking related to crowded signals or the proliferation of sedatives with various modes, including prescription. The drugs obtained were then resold at multiple prices to sedative drug abusers.
The head of drug controlling agency in Banjarmasin did not dismiss the indication about the circulation of sedatives with the doctor's prescription.
In fact, he admitted if he had checked directly with one of the doctors in Banjarmasin who often issued prescriptions for tranquilizers.
"It is a fact there are patients who need the prescription. We also coordinate with the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI), because they are authorized to supervise or ethically admonish," Guntur said on Monday (April 29).
Regarding circulation in the community, explained Guntur, if it is already in the hands of patients, BBPOM can no longer control it.
"If there is a patient, for example, reselling it for distribution, we cannot monitor it. So we hope doctors selectively release the prescription not to be misused," he explained.
The case is different if the pharmacy sells drugs without a prescription, even though they already know that the drugs sold must be prescribed by a doctor then BPOM, said Guntur, will take firm action.
"Hard drugs like G-class are very risky if consumed without a doctor's prescription. If there is a pharmacy playing, we will close it and sue it with the Consumer Protection Act," he said.
