Kotabaru Food Security Agency in collaboration with the TP-PKK held a local ingredients-based diverse, balanced and safe nutritional menu contest to explore non-rice alternative food sources.

"This activity is an elaboration of Presidential Regulation No. 22 of 2009 concerning the diversification of food consumption based on local resources," said head of the agency Gusti Syahruddin in Kotabaru, Tuesday.

By exploring non-rice alternative food sources and based on local culture, it is hoped that "Saijaan Earth" (nickname of the district) will later have its own cuisine, he said.

Through this contest, local people are expected to understand the importance of consumption of diverse, nutritious, balanced and safe food to increase the quality of life and lift the image of local specialties to be popular and able to compete with modern food.

Chairwoman of the TP-PKK Kotabaru Hj Fatma Idiana hopes the event will become a forum and vehicle for the Kotabaru community to better understand what is food and what is nutrition.

"So that women as housewives have an important role in arranging food menus for families. As civil servants' wives or officials wives, more skills and cooking skills are needed," he said.

Meanwhile, the contestants involved the board of PKK from all sub-districts in Kotabaru and women's organizations from the ranks of agencies in the local area.
