Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Pangkaraya Mayor Fairid Naparin brought a large entourage of about 130 officials for a working visit to learn how Banjarmasin City Government manages and innovates to increase the locally derived income (PAD).

The youngest mayor in Indonesia (33) was accompanied by his deputy Hj Umi Mastikah, city's secretary, as well as 20  law makers at a meeting in City Hall on Monday.

Fairid said he was very interested in studying Banjarmasin had a larger APBD than his city, even though Palangka Raya and Banjarmasin were both provincial capitals. "Our city budget is only Rp1.1 trillion, while Banjarmasin is Rp1.7 trillion," he said.

According to him, his government was interested in how the Banjarmasin City Government could explore so much PAD in regional taxes, for example from restaurant taxes, street lighting systems (PJU), hotel and entertainment.

"These innovations are what we want to follow, in order our region can explore the same potential for development progress," he explained.

Actually, said Fairid, the condition of his city with Banjarmasin is almost not much different. Both do not have natural wealth, such as mining. The reality only relies on being a city of trade and tourism.

Banjarmasin Mayor H Ibnu Sina, who received the visit of the Mayor of Palangkaraya, stated that there was an exchange of ideas to add PAD during their meeting.

For information, he said, Banjarmasin received around Rp 297 billion of PAD in 2018, the biggest being generated by local taxes of Rp 171 billion. The biggest contributors were restaurant tax of Rp 44 billion, and tax on PJU of Rp 45 billion.

"The other bigs come from hotel, entertainment, and parking taxes," he said.

According to him, the tax revenue that has been achieved has not met the cost requirements for infrastructure development, including education, health, and road and bridge facilities.

"Including the cost of making Banjarmasin the most beautiful river city in Indonesia, therefore efforts to increase PAD continue to be encouraged every year," said Ibn Sina.
