Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The Government of South Kalimantan Province is developing local bamboo to meet the needs of environmentally friendly industries as well as the realization of the Green Revolution program.


Governor of South Kalimantan Sahbirin Noor in Banjarbaru said Friday bamboo has great benefits as a driver of climate change. Bamboo is also good for rehabilitating degraded land and is able to absorb and store carbon.

Bamboo is also economically valuable. It can be processed into various products, then it will be able to improve people's welfare.

"Based on this, the government seeks to develop these high-value economic crops," he said.

As one of the commitments for the development of bamboo and the green revolution program, the Governor planted hundreds of bamboos in the Miniature of Tropical Forest in the South Kalimantan Provincial Government Office area along with hundreds of state civil apparatus of the Provincial Government.

According to the Governor, thanks to the program, he received much appreciation from the central government, internationally, even from the Antara National News Agency (LKBN).

"The Green Revolution Movement has received much appreciation from all parties, including from the Antara News Agency," he said.

Tree planting is one of the realizations of the Green Revolution Movement campaigned by the South Kalimantan Provincial Government.

Planting began with the release of dozens of birds witnessed by the ranks of the Forest Agency, officials and invitations, including from the Ministry of Forestry and representatives from the Indonesian Embassy in Finland and the Neste Corporation.

The Provincial Government cooperates in various fields with the government and companies from Northern Europe country in implementing the Green Revolution program.

The governor said, through the green revolution movement, his party wanted to restore the forests of Kalimantan, especially South Kalimantan, to become a paradise of tropical forests in the world.

"We want South Kalimantan's forests to improve. Forest damage can be overcome and we cultivate vacant land together and work together," he said.

According to the Governor, thanks to the Green Revolution Movement, the critical land in South Kalimantan has decreased significantly, from 640 thousand hectares remaining to 511 thousand hectares.
