Barabai, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The Central Hulu Sungai (HST) District Government through the Fisheries and Food Security Agency held a free fishing competition whose main prize is a motorbike.


The fishing competition which took place in the fish pond belonging to the Military District Command (Kodim) 1002 Barabai on Sunday (16/12) was in commemoration of Nusantara Day December 13 while at the same time enlivening the 59th Anniversary of HST which will be December 24th.

A total of 176 participants competed to collect as many fish as possible in the competition.

"In addition to motorcycle prizes, also TV, refrigerators, washing machines, and other attractive prizes are provided with a total value of tens of millions of rupiah," said Head of the Fisheries and Food Security Agency Sunar Winarni.

Acting Regent H A Chairansyah stated that Nusantara Day is a very strategic momentum to emphasize that Indonesia is an archipelagic country that has great marine and land waters potential.

"Let all components of society, especially those whose regions have the potential and cultivation of fisheries, in order to optimize production for the sake of improving people's welfare in HST," he said.

Chairansyah appreciates the fishing competition which he considers as a venue for mass gathering and also provides free recreational entertainment to the general public and regional government officials.

The 1002 Barabai Military Commander (Dandim) through his chief of staff Major Inf H Fahrijani claimed to be proud and happy because the Kodim 1002 Barabai's fish pond was again trusted as the place for fishing competition.

"Hopefully it can increase friendship and cohesiveness of all components of society," he said.

The winner of the first prize Ali Sadikin collected 2,035 fishes, the second winner Faturrahman 1,945 fishes and the third winner Agus PLN 1,690 fishes.
