Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Regional Head of Bank Indonesia in South Kalimantan Herawanto said it is trying to encourage the development of halal products as a new economic source in the province.


According to Herawanto, the province has strong capital to become the center of Islamic economics as well as the center of the halal industry in the Kalimantan region. The development of halal products includes halal food, Muslim clothing, and religious tourism.

"We will expand the pesantren business empowerment program and develop a halal value chain ecosystem, especially food, fashion, and tourism," he said in Banjarmasin on Thursday.

In 2018, he said, South Kalimantan's economic growth has the opportunity to increase slightly in the range of 5.1-5.5 percent and is expected to increase again in 2019 in the range of 5.4-5.8 percent.

The increase in 2019 will be supported by increased investment, household consumption (RT), and consumption of non-profit household institutions (LNPRT).

In terms of sector, he added, the growth will be sustained mainly by the agricultural sector and the processing industry, as the paddy field printing program continues. In addition, the operation of a new CPO derivative plant and B20 program.

On the other hand, the prospect of coal prices which tend to be lower in 2019 will restrain export growth and the performance of the mining sector.
