Banjarmasin, (Antaranews Kalsel) - South Kalimantan Governor Sahbirin Noor said the citizens of the province are proud of the appointment of Ir Prince H Muhammad Noor as a national hero.


According to the Governor, the long struggle of the regional government, the community, and veterans in South Kalimantan, appealed the government to determine the late PM Noor as a national hero was finally achieved.

"The awarding of an honorary title as a national hero to PM Noor is very much awaited by South Kalimantan people for a long time, given his great service for the country," he said in Banjarmasin on Sunday.

Earlier on Thursday (8/11), President Joko Widodo handed over the National Hero Title Charter to six figures, one of which was to the heir of the late PM Noor at the State Palace.

Governor H Sahbirin Noor accompanied by Gusti Firdauzy Noor, grandson of PM Noor, after receiving the Presidential Decree expressed his gratitude and thanks for the government's decision.

PM Noor was a fighter figure in the struggle for independence. In the era of President Soekarno, he had served as Minister of Public Works and the first to become Governor of Kalimantan.

According to the Governor, the enactment of PM Noor as a national hero added to the list of national heroes from South Kalimantan. "There are already four of South Kalimantan's best figure who have received awards from the President of the Republic of Indonesia as national heroes," he said.

Previously, the President awarded the title of national hero to Pangeran Antasari, TNI Brigadier General (ret) H Hasan Basri and Dr. KH Idham Chalid.
