Barabai, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The Central Hulu Sungai (HST) Agriculture Agency, South Kalimantan, targets this year's rice planting area of 62,372 hectares, including in swampland.

Head of the agency Zainuddin in Tanjung, Saturday, said 59,678 hectares of rice planting has been realized this month.

"We are targeting that in December 2018 to be realized 100 percent," Zainuddin explained.

Rice production in this region is 5.4 tons in average per hectare or 243,268 tons of dried harvested rice (GKP).

Acting Regent HST HA Chairansyah revealed that he would consistently help farmers in advancing agricultural products.

The development of the agricultural sector is a regional priority because the neighbor Tabalong District Government rejects coal mining or oil palm plantations in the Bumi Murakata' (a nickname for HST).

"We focus on development in agriculture and support from the central and provincial governments is quite high," Chairansyah explained.
