Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, Customs and Excise Supervision and Service Type C Office (KPPBC TMP C) destroyed 1,467,100 illegal cigarettes.

"This destruction is a routine activities and usually accompanied by Banjarmasin. This time we are trying to carry out its our own," said the Head of KPPBC TMP C Kotabaru Bagus Sulistijono, Friday.

Illegal cigarettes destroyed were confiscated from 52 raids throughout 2015 until early 2018. The extermination was only carried out now because it deliberately waited until the numbers were quite large.

KPPBC TMP C Kotabaru aggressively conducts supervision and control in two regions, Kotabaru and Tanah Bumbu District.

Retail markets and traders are targeted because South Kalimantan is not a production area, but only a distribution destination.

"This is obtained from retailers, not large traders. Thus, they cannot benamed as suspects because it's not their main business," Bagus said.

Most illegal cigarettes were found using excise bands that were not their allotments. The rest are cigarettes without excise ribbons and cigarettes used fake excise ribbons or utilizing used excise ribbons.

"What mostly found in Kotabaru is cigarettes using excise band which is not a designation. Machine made clove cigarettes are attached with excise band for hand made clove cigarettes, so the excise is cheaper," he explained.

Distribution of illegal cigarettes causes state losses. Of the 1.4 million illegal cigarettes worth Rp1 billion, state losses are estimated at IDR 400 million to IDR 500 million.

"If for example the price of one cigarette is Rp1,000.00, the excise will be Rp600. If you don't pay the excise at all, the condition in the ribbon area is genuine but not the designation, they takes the margin," he said.
