Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Banjarmasin Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) along with South Kalimantan Regional Police Directorate of Special Crime Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) dismantled awarehouses that store and trade tens of thousands of illegal traditional medicines in Tanah Bumbu District.


"What we are taking action against is the warehouse and the RK Herbal Depot on Jalan Transmigrasi, Simpang Empat Subdistrict, Tanah Bumbu," explained the Head of the BPOM Dr. H. Muhammad Guntur, Wednesday (8/8).

He revealed, the action was carried out on Thursday (2/8) last week in a joint operation to eradicate illegal traditional drugs.

"At first we got information from the community that there was a circulation of traditional medicines or herbal medicines those allegedly illegal or fake. Then investigations and prosecutions were carried out," Guntur explained.

The evidence confiscated 39 kinds of illegal traditional medicine as many as 35,632 pieces whose value was estimated at Rp.312,313,000. Amongs were aches and pains herbal, gout, and strong herbs. The brand are Montalin, Novalinu, Daun, Walisongo, Super Kecetit Asam Urat and Multiguna Jinten Arab.

From the results of the deepening by officers, most of the traditional medicines came from Central Java.

The suspect was charged with Article 197 of Law No. 36/2009 concerning Health with a maximum sentence of 15 years imprisonment and a maximum fine of Rp1.5 billion.

BPOM Banjarmasin continues to improve drug and food supervision through collaboration with various relevant parties to protect the public from products that are at risk of health and not in accordance with applicable regulations.

Until August 2018, added Guntur, BPOM had confiscated hundreds of kinds of illegal traditional medicines, illegal cosmetics and hard drugs, G-class drug which was sold at facilities that did not have authority with a total of 1,005,527 packs worth Rp1,914,627,240.

"People must be able to become smart consumers. Remember to always 'Check Click'. Check the packaging in good condition, check the label for product information, check the distribution authorization of BPOM and check expiration.
