Barabai, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Rantau Keminting village-owned enterprises (BUMDes) in North Labuan Amas, Central Hulu Sungai, South Kalimantan, developed Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) processing to optimize the benefits of coconut.


The North Labuan Amas Subdistrict Head Muhammad Anhar in Barabai on Tuesday said the development of VCO has been done by farmers of Rantau Keminting Village since 2017.

"The potential of coconut in Rantau Keminting is quite high, therefore through BUMDes we produce coconut oil that is rich in benefits," explained Anhar.

Previously, a study has been done in the village related to the development VCO. Then the villagers learned the technique of making it very easy, while the raw materials easily available.

Chairman of BUMDes Rantau Bersama Zulfaisyal said the initial capital of VCO processing was about Rp50 million obtained from village funds.

"Now we sell VCO with the price of Rp40 thousand for 250 ml package with expiration period of about one year," he explained.

Zulfaisyal explains how VCO is made almost the same as oil from palm oil, vegetable or palm. The only difference is in the method of VCO extraction which is processed by cold-pressed technique without involving heat, either the heat from the stove or the heat of the sun. Thus the process produces the best variant of coconut oil for health.

One of them the content of medium chain triglycerides that can trigger good cholesterol and reduce the development of bad cholesterol, thus makes it good for the heart.
