Kotabaru, S. Kalimantan, June 3 (Antara) - The district administration of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan has received 393 units of solar power generator (PLTS) in aid from the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry.

"The assistance in energy efficient PLTS is villages in small islands and other areas not yet covered by the electrification program," Head of Kotabaru District H Sayed Jafar said here on Saturday.

Sayed said the people in the sub-districts of Pulau Laut Sembilan, Pulau Laut Kepulauan, Pulau Laut Tanjung Selayar, Pulau Laut Selatan, Sungai Durian, and Pamukan Barat have no electricity yet.

The Jafar said with the PLTS from the ESDM Ministry, villages in the district including those in small islands would have electric illumination.

Earlier, chairman of the Commission III of the Kotabaru city council Denny Hendro Kurnianto said the ESDM Ministry would build power plant with the technology of coal gasification in Pulau Laut with a capacity of 7 megawatts.

He said the Central Government plans to finish electrification program to cover all villages in Indonesia in 2023.

In supporting the program the government would use the coal gasification technology , converting coal into gas to generate power, he said.

With the capacity , shortage in power supply for Kotabaru would be covered, he said. (AS/a014)
