Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - South Kalimantan government is seriously developing and accelerating the of Batulicin Special Industrial Zone in Tanah Bumbu to encourage the acceleration of industrial growth in the province, said an official.

According to Head of South Kalimantan Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) Fajar Desira there are already local investors who are ready to develop the area.

"The Batulicin Industrial Estate initially only 500 hectares, now increased by 2 thousand hectares after the entry of local investors," he said on the 2018 Road to Indonesia Development Forum (IDF) for Kalimantan and Sulawesi in Banjarmasin, on Wednesday.

Initially, he told, a steel industry had been producing here, but because the price of its product plummeted in the market, it ceased its production.

However, he added, the government is now pushing for the industrial area to continue to grow, in accordance with the plans have been set.

Batulicin Industrial Estate, he added, is an industrial area that will focus on development in the 2018 development plan.

"Most of the infrastructure in the Batulicin industrial area is ready, 500 hectares of land, existing management agencies, ports and airports as well, and an anchor industry recommendation," he said.

The government together with the relevant parties should encourage and complete all the shortcomings that exist to develop the steel industry in the area.

The provincial government, he added, will try to engage the relevant parties, such as the Ministry of Industry for the development of its industry, Pelindo for the development of the port, and to cooperate with Angkasa Pura for airport development.

Previously, Bank Indonesia encouraged the re-operation of PT Meratus Jaya Iron Steel (MJIS) to support the growing investment in the industrial estate of Tanah Bumbu. PT MJIS has ceased production due to too low steel prices. These conditions make other investors who are interested in building factories is still limited.
