Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The government owned tap water company PDAM Bandarmasin, Banjarmasin, declares current condition of
Martapura River that flows from Banjar district to Banjarmasin is experiencing high turbidity.


The company's head of public relations Ramadhan Agustina here on Monday stated the current turbidity of the Martapura river up to 1,000 NTU (Nephelometer Turbidity Unit) whereas usually 100 NTU.

"Usually the normal number of the turbidity of the Martapura River is only 100 NTU, now the condition is soaring up to 1,000 NTU," he said.

With a very murky river today, Agustina explained, then the clean water treatment for customers becomes difficult, there must be much chemicals needed to clear it.

"As a result the installation of raw water treatment into clean water must work hard, while operating costs become expensive," she said.

Nevertheless, she said, PDAM Bandarmasih will still strive to produce quality clean water for customers, especially for Ramadan to come.

However, the natural occurrence of this condition makes the production of the water company supply to its 160 thousand subscribers, is declining, but still in the corridor of not to stop.

"Only the pressure is reduced, because the production takes an unusual time. We hope this condition is only a few days, at the time of Ramadan will return to normal," she said.
