Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Thousands of tons of illegal fertilizer from China entered South Kalimantan through the sea using Toyo Maru ship, Friday afternoon.

"We assure the fertilizer is illegal because it is not registered in the Ministry of Agriculture and there has been no quality test and its effectiveness," said Head Section of Pesticide of the Agriculture Ministry's Directorate of Fertilizer and Pesticide Budi Hanafi in Banjarmasin, Friday.

According to him, the imported product should not be circulated because there is no label of Indonesian National Standard (SNI) and there is no Indonesian Language description in the packaging.

"These goods after confiscation can be annihilated in accordance with Act No. 12/1992 on Plant Protection Article 37 that circulating fertilizer must be registered in the Ministry of Agriculture and tested its quality and effectiveness," said Budi.

He was at the Port of Trisakti Banjarmasin to witness the evidence at the request of 101/Antasari Provincial Military Commander (Danrem) Colonel Inf Yudianto Putrajaya who had first arrived at the location of the moored ship.

The Ministry of Agriculture official happened to be in South Kalimantan in the task of guarding the special effort program (Upsus) of food self-sufficiency with the focus of three commodities, namely rice, corn, and soybean (pajale).

Danrem asserted the prosecution of illegal fertilizer trade is solely for the benefit of the people of South Kalimantan and Indonesia in general.

"If you do not know the quality can affect the agriculture to cause crop failure, obviously the loss of us all and pity for farmers. Especially South Kalimantan as a national food barn," said the man who is familiarly called Putra.

Danrem also admitted that the military intelligence Unit still coordinates with the police to follow up the findings of 6,500 tons of fertilizer.

"We will fully hand over all legal proceedings to the police and the party responsible for the delivery of this fertilizer must be dealt with firmly," he concluded.

He had to go aboard to check thousands of tons of fertilizer placed at the bottom of the hull. He also talked to the captain and skipper of Chinese citizenship. Almost all the crew come from China and cannot speak Indonesian or English.
