Amuntai, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The North Hulu Sungai (HSU), South Kalimantan, administration has been forced to refuse the presence of large retailers in the district to protect small traders from growing.
Head of Legal Division of the administration Sofyan Syahrani in Amuntai on Saturday said the government was forced not to issue permits for large retailers to operate despite the impression of refusing investment in the district.
"Whereas about 20 local regulations were canceled to facilitate investment, but the Regent considered also the impact for small-scale enterprises owned by the people," said Sofian.
He said the HSU government supports government regulations to facilitate the entry of investment by instructing the agencies to draft local regulations that do not conflict with policies to facilitate investment.
In addition to canceling about 20 local regulations that have the potential to hamper the development of investment in the region, the government makes new regulations that suit the needs of investors.
According to him, denying the presence of large retailers in order to protect merchants and small businesses is not contrary to the Act.
Local governments seek to build economic growth by empowering small and medium-sized businesses by utilizing local potentials, thereby creating community economic independence.
