Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Vice Speaker of South Kalimantan Legislative Council (DPRD) H Hamsyuri said the

lifting of the ban on the use of fishing equipment cantrang is quite aspiration, especially for the fishermen.

The opinion was to reply AntaranewsKalsel here on Thursday in connection with the revoke of the ban for fishermen to use cantrang by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP)  recently.

According to the retired civil servants (PNS) who joined the National Awakening Party (PKB), the revoke is reasonable, partly

because it is not a fishing tool that destroys marine resources.

In addition, the use of cantrang will help the life of fishermen, because the catch is adequate when compared with similar

fishing equipment "rimpa gondrong" as the assistance of KKP to replace cantrang or trawl.

Hamsyuri, who claimed his origin from the family of fishermen in the eastern region of South Kalimantan explained the use of

cantrang when to go offshore or marine areas by ship above 15 GT. While fishing boats in South Kalimantan, such as in Kotabaru,

Tanah Bumbu (Tanbu) and Tanah Laut (Tala) are on average under 15 GT, due to private or non-corporate property.

"South Kalimantan fishermen in the sea can say we do not use cantrang, but our own fishing gear, as Kotabaru fishermen," said

Hamsyuri.

From 13 districts and cities in South Kalimantan, five of them are marine producers, namely Kotabaru, Tanbu, Tala, Barito Kuala

(Batola) and Banjar.

Earlier on Wednesday, President Joko Widodo in a meeting with fishermen who staged a protest in front of the Merdeka Palace,

said that the government would give more time for them to stop using trawler.

"The conclusion is that we give them more time, to change their fishing nets from trawl to other tools, without any deadline. But

please do not add more trawlers," the President said.
