Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan 14/12 (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Ministry of Agriculture encourages the realization of plantation industry downstream in South Kalimantan due to its large potential that are still capable to be developed.


"South Kalimantan's opportunity to realize the downstream of the plantation industry is large, so we continue to push it," said Director of Processing and Marketing Plantation Dedi Junaidi in Banjarbaru, Thursday.

His statement representing the Director General of Plantation was delivered on the sidelines of the 60th Plantation Day celebration held at the offices of the South Kalimantan Plantation Agency in Banjarbaru.

He said the opportunity to realize downstream plantations in South Kalimantan through rubber commodities to be used as a mixture of asphalt will lift the price of the crop.

He suggested rubber or lum from the plantation in South Kalimantan for a temporary to be used as home industry and it will help to stable the fluctuated rubber prices even up the price.

"Do not let this potential is captured by South Sumatra which has huge potential of rubber. South Kalimantan must be able to seize the market until the plantation downstream materialized," he said.

If nowadays 70 percent of rubber raw materials directed to support the tire industry, then it should be developed into other potential that is more profitable.

"If anyone is able to take advantage of rubber commodities to support other products is certainly a remarkable breakthrough that makes rubber more valuable and selling high," he said.

Deputy Governor of South Kalimantan Rudy Resnawan said the plantation sector should be able to become one of the contributors of prosperity for the people of Indonesia, especially the people of South Kalimantan.

"The potential of rubber in South Kalimantan is large so it must be utilized maximally and we strongly support the program of plantation downstream as one effort to increase economic value," he said.

Head of South Kalimantan Plantation Agency Suparmi said the agency has prepared a number of programs to support the realization of the downstream of the plantation industry in the province.

"We are targeting the establishment of lum processing and marketing unit to be 150 by 2018 and optimistic it can be realized," he said.
