Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Indonesian Study Center for Biodiversity Conservation - University of Lambung Mangkurat (Biodiversitas Indonesia - ULM) through its chairwoman Amalia Rezeki welcomes the inclusion of orangutans into the planning of Indonesia Orangutan Conservation Strategy and Action Plan (SRAK 2017-2023) at the  2017 Central Kalimantan Orangutan Meeting in Palangkaraya 13-14 November.


"Thus, the presence of South Kalimantan orangutans reported by the Indonesian Biodiversity - ULM team to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry through BKSDA South Kalimantan in 2014 has received a positive response," Amalia Rezeki told AntaranewsKalsel in Banjarmasin on Saturday.

In fact, she said, currently the BKSDA and South Kalimantan Forestry Agency is in the field to do the habitat mapping and orangutan population in the province. 

As is known the Government of South Kalimantan has formed the Conservation Team of Orangutan & Bekantan, through the Governor's Decree No.188.44/0400/KUM/2017.

"We are very appreciative and grateful for the attention and follow-up in the effort to save South Kalimantan orangutan, both from Central Government and Local Government of South Kalimantan, and team from Indonesian Orangutan Forum (FORINA) led by Sri Suci Utami Atmoko who in year 2016 doing direct research on existence of South Kalimantan orangutans," she said. 

"The status is very critical and pressed, because of the big fire on their habitat in 2016, "said Amalia Rezeki who is also known as a young lecturer of Biology Education Studies Program at Lambung Mangkurat University.
