Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Government of Banjarmasin City through the Tourism and Culture Agency is currently working out the floating market dock.
Head of the Tourism Development of Tourism and Culture Agency Mohammad Khuzaimi told the press at the pier construction site at Siring Tendean, Martapura River, on Monday that the pier contractor is working out the project.
The dock is designed in such a way that it will be able to accommodate at least 200 traditional merchants in the floating market.
The pier is also used for the helmsmen (skipper) of kelotok, traditional boat fitted with a motor, to serve the river cruising tourism from the pier to various directions.
Usually, the river cruising tours from the pier to the Lok Baintan floating market in Banjar District takes one hour. Or to the direction of Flower (actually monkey) Island or Bakut Island in Barito Kuala.
Or people can enjoy the river tour in the city at a rate of only Rp 5,000 per person.
Previously this dock was made of wood but now it is being renovated for the better. As it is being worked out now, this floating pier is made of a kind of plastic or a rubbery material called HDBE such as drinking water pipes.
The five-meter-width and 35-meter-long dock work have been going on since a month ago, and it is expected by mid-December the pier can be utilized.
