Tanjung, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Mantuil Villagers in Muara Harus Sub-district, Tabalong, South Kalimantan, which is incorporated in the group of fishery, has successfully developed catfish(patin) through biofloc technology.

Head of Mantuil Village Husni here on Friday said the application of technology, which utilizes the activity of floc-forming microorganisms, was an assistance of PT Adaro Indonesia's CSR program.

"After seven months finally catfish cultivated through biofloc ready for harvest and become a pilot for other villages to implement the system," he told.

CSR support for Patin fish culture through biofloc technology begins in 2016. At that time three members of the fishery group attended training.

Husni revealed fish culture with biofloc system was able to suppress the mortality rate of fish seedlings. With conventional models of tarpaulins and floating cage mortality rate reach 50 percent, whereas with biofloc only about five percent.

"In addition, treatment is also not difficult, we only control feed, water acidity and tenacity," said Husni.

According to associate staff of village building of PT Adaro, Bahmi, the application of biofloc technology in Mantuil was a citizen proposal through village consultation.

"We only adapt to local potentials in implementing village development programs such as in Mantuil Village whose fishery potential is quite high," Bahmi explained.

Furthermore, through this program residents can be more independent in developing fishery business through biofloc technology.
