Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Banjarbaru Resort Police, South Kalimantan, has named two of four counterfeit money carriers arrested on Wednesday (31/5) as suspects.


Banjarbaru Police Chief Adj Sr Comr (AKBP) Kelana Jaya here on Thursday said the two men, AM and MW, are owner of the goods, and now detained in the police detention.

"Both have been named as suspects and detained to undergo further investigation of the case, while the other two men are not," he said.

He said, AM acknowledged to investigators, he is a cleric or preacher and was proven to carry a bill of money resembling the original money ordered by MA.

The banknotes that resemble the original are 328 pieces of Rp100 thousand bill. 

"MA has twice ordered the money to WA who is a resident of Bandung, West Java, and planned to be sold in Banjarbaru," said the police chief.

The acts of two suspects violated Article 36 paragraph 2 jo Article 26 paragraph 2 of Law number 7/2011 on currency with heavy sanctions.

"The threat of penalty violation of the Law on currency is quite heavy that is maximum 10 years imprisonment," said Head of Crime Investigation Unit Adj Comr (AKP) Mars Suryo.

Deputy Head of Bank Indonesia Representative South Kalimantan M Irwan said physically banknotes brought by both suspects are of low quality.

"We can confirm the physical characteristics of paper money the suspects brought is low quality, because it can be seen from the slippery paper and other characteristics," he said.

He asked the public to be careful not to be fooled by banknotes that resemble real money, let alone the month of Ramadan when financial transactions quite a lot.
