Forestry ready to release bekantan in forest park

Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan 8/6 (AntaranewsKalsel) - South Kalimantan Forestry Agency is ready to release bekantan to the area of  People's Forest Park (Tahura) Sultan Adam, Banjar District.

Head of the agency Hanif Faisol Nurofiq in Banjarbaru on Thursday said the bekantans that will be released in Tahura area are still in Surabaya Zoo (KBS).

"Currently KBS Surabaya is overcapacity so we are planning to take bekantan to be released in Tahura, in order the population is growing," he said.

He said, manager of KBS has agreed to submit 15 bekantan as early stage as both parties has been agreed since 2016.

"We have coordinated with the organization of Sahabat Bekantan who has been researching food for bekantan in Tahura and the food is available," he said.

According to him, the release of protected animals is estimated to be realized two months ahead so it still has time to prepare the facility, which is to create two islands in the Tahura region.

"In addition to suitable for Bekantan, if the breeding is good and the population continues to grow can also be an attraction for people to see bekantan," he said.
