Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan 10/5 (AntaranewsKalsel) - General Manager PT PLN of South and Central Kalimantan Region Purnomo said electricity in two provinces is currently surplus by 100 megawatts so that power shortages can be overcome.

The surplus was obtained after the Batangkanai Gas Power Plant (PLTG) in North Barito Utara (Central Kalimantan) was completed.

"From the PLTG we are able to distribute up to 140 megawatts of electricity to meet the needs of South and Central Kalimantan," he said in Banjarmasin on Wednesday.

In addition, he added, steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) Pulang Pisau volume II was also completed, thus increasing the electricity supply for the two neighboring provinces.

According to Purnomo, many people do not believe the information that the electricity supply of South and Central Kalimantan is now surplus. To convince them, PLN invited some related parties, from local governments, banks, businessmen, and other electricity customers to meet.

Because electricity has surplus, Purnomo added, PLN will make acceleration for customers who need a supply or want to add power.

"I hope, with this surplus of electricity, will spur investment and economic growth in South Kalimantan, which has been hampered by the availability of electrical energy," he said.
