Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - A total of eight kilometers of pipeline of government owned tap water company PDAM Bandarmasih here is considered very vulnerable to leakage, because of old age.

President Director of PDAM Bandarmasih Muslih said the condition of the main distribution pipeline which is 630 centimeters in diameter from the Water Treatment Plant (IPA) 2 on Jalan A Yani to Sutoyo S about three kilometers has many leakages.

Also the main pipeline to customers which headed to West Banjarmasin with a length of about five kilometers are worrisome.

"Because of the less strong condition of the pipeline, raising the distribution power can not be done. Eventually customers in the suburbs can not have 24 hours of smoothly water service," he said while in the DPRD Banjarmasin on Wednesday.

According to Muslih, repair or replacement of the pipe will be done, because it concerns the service that should be given maximum to customers.

The fund need is calculated around Rp20 billion. "We will make effort this program to be funded by capital participation from the city government, otherwise it will be financed from the PDAM's own finances," he said.
