Amuntai, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Longkong villagers in North Hulu Sungai took the initiative to repair the severely damaged ulin footbridge in their village so that village midwife is not difficult to go to sub-district health post (poskesdes).


The Longkong Village, Danau Panggang Sub-district, midwife Nelly Marlina in Amuntai on Thursday said the villagers understood that she had difficulty to cross the damaged footbridge using motor vehicles, so they had to fix the bridge by using village funds.

"Once I perforced to return home, because of not dare to cross the damaged bridge. Sometimes I ask people help to go to the sub-district health post," she said.

Nelly said, two to three days each week she worksat the village health post to serve patients or attend a working meeting. The only access to the poskesdes in the damaged ulin footbridge. 

She said the village funds provided by the central government is very useful to improve the infrastructure and facilities of roads, bridges and footbridge in North Hulu Sungai. About 89 percent of the district are covered by swamplands.

Although only a non-permanent employee (PTT), Nelly ventured to follow the selection of health force performance assessment for South Kalimantan provincial level this year.

She has served as a PTT Midwife in Longkong Village for 3.5 years and lives in the village with her husband and one child.

"Hopefully can win through this performance assessment race, it useless if such an event is passed," she said.
