Barabai, South Kalimantan 20/4 (AntaranewsKalsel) - The result of mapping of fishery areas in the Central Hulu Sungai (HST) by Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) showed the potential of wetlands reaches 36.2 hectares, in the form of lebak, swamp and rice field.

According to mapping team member, Professor Slamat, this district has the potential to develop the fisheries sector, but is still constrained by lack of information related to the extent and location.

"The potential of wetlands in Central Hulu Sungai if managed optimally will produce considerable fishery products," said Slamat in Barabai, Thursday.

According to him, it need to synchronize the study of potential and mapping of territory with Spatial Plan (RTRW) in order not to overlap local policy.

The mapping of the potential of the territory and the suitability of the fishery field, said Slamat, will be used to select alternative land management in each rational field.

Meanwhile, from the analysis of the waters environment of Walatung Village, Pandawan Sub-district, is suitable as the location of papuyu (betok) fish cultivation, while Mahang Baru Village, Labuan Amas Sub-district, suitable for snakehead fish (haruan).
