Batulicin, (Antaranews South Kalimantan) - The number of passenger vessels belonging to PT Pelni (Persero) for several routes in Batulicin Samudra Port, Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan recorded a decrease of 20 percent-50 percent compared to normal conditions.

Head of PT Pelni Branch Office Batulicin, Tunggul Ompusunggu, in Batulicin, on Thursday, said the decrease in the number of passengers due to the number of people shifting from sea transportation to air transport.

"Since Barsujud Airport in Batulicin, Tanah Bumbu has opened Batulicin-Banjarmasin-Surabaya, Batulicin-Makasar and vice versa, people tend to choose airplanes instead of ships," Tunggul said.

Previously under normal conditions, the average number of passenger ships in one departure from Batulicin Ocean port reaches 200- 250 people, but during the long holiday season the number of passengers rises up to 100 percent.

However, the last few months, especially since the available air transportation alternatives the number of passengers ships began to decline.

He explained, in addition to the many passengers who switch to using air transport, Pelni does not have the ship type Roll On Roll Off (Roro) ships that carry passengers also two-wheeled vehicles, four wheels.

As a result, people who want to bring a vehicle are forced to find a private vessel to cross.

While the last few years, many passengers from the island of Borneo to the island of Java or vice versa began to bring a car or two-wheeled vehicles and included in the boat.

Even so, Pelni continues to be committed to improving service to the community.

Especially before Ramadhan and Idul Fitri Day 2017, Pelni alerted three ship units, namely KM Sirimau, KM Sabuk Nusantara 55 and Sabuk Nusantara.

The cruise route includes Batulicin-Surabaya, Surabaya-Sampit, Sampit-Batulicin.
