Antaranews Greening Bukit Batas Attractions

Tiwingan, South Kalimantan, 24/12 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Journalists and employees of South Kalimantan Bureau of Antara National News Agency (LKBN) greened natural attractions Bukit Batas in Tiwingan Village at the upstream of Riam Kanan reservoirs, Banjar District, Saturday.

The Greening was led by Head of South Kalimantan Bureau of Antara Abdul Hakim Muhidin as one of their real concern fo the environment in a series of its 79th Anniversary.

They planted a variety of trees seedlings, including agarwood, tamarind, durian, longan, and rambutan around the summit of Bukit Batas mount which mostly full with grass and bushes and thus susceptible to erosion by rainwater.

Abdul Hakim said its deliberately accentuate the open this time, to help promote beauty of nature in the province which consists of 13 districts and cities.

"Moreover, in addition to a tourist attraction, Bukit Batas is also a water catchments for Riam Kanan river basin areas (DAS) which is a source of raw water for five districts in South Kalimantan," he said.

The five districts and cities whose raw water taken from the DAS Riam Kanan, namely Banjarmasin, Banjarbaru, Banjar, Barito Kuala (Batola) and Tanah Laut (Tala).

The planting of trees in Bukit Batas, located within the Meratus mountains was the idea of H Hasan Zainuddin, editor of the news agency.

According to him, planting trees is one charity that is not pronounced but prolonged. One tree has infinite value through oxygen output into human needs.

"Over the life of plants or trees it would mean everlasting charity we do not feel today but will be reaped in the hereafter, God willing," said Hasan.
