Tanjung, Dec 7 (Antara) - PT Pertamina Eksplorasi dan Produksi (Pertamina EP), Aset 5 Tanjung Field, in the regency of Tabalong, South Kalimantan will stop operation in the Tepian field and in compensation, it is given 8 new oil and gas wells in Warukin and Kambitin.

The Tepian concession would be handed over to coal mining company PT Adaro Indonesia, Akhmad Ruspandi, the spokesman of PT Pertamina EP Aset 5 Tanjung Field said here on Tuesday.

"It is a decision of the central government that the Tepian concession would be taken over by PT Adaro which would produce coal from that area. In compensation Pertamina is given 8 new oil and gas wells," Ruspandi said.

In Tepian, there are 20 oil and gas wells and 8 of them are still productive while the rest have been suspended or closed temporarily.

Meanwhile, Pertamina EP spokesman at its head office Krisna said the subsidiary of state oil and gas company Pertamina, has no objection to handing over to Adaro the Tepian block.

"For the sake of an increase in the state foreign exchange income Pertamina has no objection to the take over by Adaro especially as we are given a compensation of 8 new oil and gas wells in Tabalong," Krisna.

Currently , oil and gas production of PT Pertamina EP Tanjung Field averages 3,300 barrels per day and in 2017, the production is expected to rise to 3,400 barrels per day .

Pertamina in its attemp to increase its production has found new oil and gas reserves in southern part of the regency of Tabalong precisely in the sub-district of Pugaan, now in the phase of performance test.

Altogether, there are around 150 oil and gas wells of Pertamina in the northern most district of South Kalimantan. A number of old wells in that area would also be optimized to be productive again.
