The 10th World Water Forum has produced a compendium comprising 113 projects worth US$9.4 billion, according to Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono.
"Achievements made during this forum include Indonesia's success in arranging a list of 113 featured projects worth US$9.4 billion in total," he informed at a press conference following the adoption of a ministerial declaration in Badung, Bali, on Tuesday.
He said that the compendium, which is a part of the ministerial declaration, comprises projects that are deemed flagship projects in many countries.
The minister further said that Indonesia is focusing on two projects — one pertains to the acceleration of drinking water provision to 3 million households, while the other concerns the management of domestic wastewater for 300 thousand households.
"These many projects will bring benefits to people in various countries. So, the benefits will be presented to the whole world rather than being exclusive to Indonesia," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, deputy for facilities and infrastructure at the National Development Planning Ministry, Ervan Maksum, said that the 113 projects are related to studies, technical assistance, research centers, and capacity development activities.
He further noted that the projects include bilateral and multilateral schemes.
"The largest projects in Indonesia are pertaining to sanitation and drinking water, including one related to a presidential instruction," he informed.
In this context, the official referred to Presidential Instruction No.1 of 2024 regarding the acceleration of the provision of drinking water and domestic wastewater management services.
He said that the presidential instruction aims to fulfill the basic rights of the people, protect them from water-related diseases, alleviate stunting, and reduce people's reliance on the extraction of groundwater.
"The instruction focuses on Palembang, Pantura (northern coast area of Java Island), small islands, and the Greater Jakarta region," he informed.
Earlier, countries participating in the 10th World Water Forum adopted the declaration on "Water for Shared Prosperity" during a ministerial meeting co-chaired by Minister Hadimuljono.
Indonesia's proposals for the establishment of a Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Security, the designation of World Lakes Day through a United Nations resolution, and the mainstreaming of water management issues for developing countries on small islands were adopted in the declaration.
