Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - A total of 101 athletes of South Kalimantan Province are ready to compete in the National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) XV in West Java on October 15 to 24, 2016.


Head of Sports Department of South Kalimantan Culture, Tourism, Youth, and Sports Agency Khairul Saleh here on Tuesday revealed the province's Peparnas contingent will start deployment to  West Java on Wednesday (12/10).

"The athletes are very ready to follow a variety of games, because they all wanted to carve achievements in the national arena," he said.

He disclosed, South Kalimantan contingent will compete in as many as 10 sports, and the matches to be followed as many as 169 numbers.

"This means that every athlete take are up to three numbers of the game. They committed to get as many achievements," said Khairul Saleh.

According to him, the gold medal target remains in the core sports, namely swimming, badminton, chess and athletics.

The reason is, he continued, at the 2012 Peparnas XIV in Riau those sport mostly contributed medals with a total of 68 medals, with details of 24 gold medals, 20 silvers and 24 bronzes.

"Our target does not say how many, but up to increase the medals as many as possible," he said.

He said the South Kalimantan athletes all are in good condition and has already been making preparations for the quadrennial event with regular exercise and spirit.

"We hope their spirit will never die out, and we also see the athletes are very pleased to follow this event, until we are sure will be many accomplishments than the Peparnas before," he said.
