The provincial government of South Kalimantan stated that Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF or popularly known as DBD in Indonesia) has risen sharply in January 2024.

Head of South Kalimantan Health Office Diauddin here on Tuesday said that three regions showed the quite high case among other districts and cities.

Banjar District has recorded 222 cases or the highest in January 2024, then Central Hulu Sungai (HST) District with 155 cases, and followed by Tanah Laut District with 148 cases.

Diauddin repeatedly urged people in South Kalimantan to remain vigilant against the disease transmitted from bites of Aedes aegypti mosquitos.

The provincial Health Office data showed 1,062 cases are spreading in 13 districts and cities in the period of January 1-27, 2024.

"In fact, eight people died due to dengue fever in January 2024," Diauddin said adding that the toll figure in January 2024 exceeded the figure in January 2023.
 
"For this reason we have to anticipate this, so that the spread of dengue mosquito can be handled more quickly," he said.

He said the spike in dengue cases caused by the condition in the current rainy season with standing water becomes nest and makes the Aedes aegypti mosquito breed.

Diauddin asked people to increase awareness to work together to clean their living environment by implementing 3M plus, namely draining, covering, and utilizing or recycling used goods, and preventing mosquiot bites using anti-mosquito liquid, eradicate larvae with larvacide in standing water and planting mosquito repellent plants.
 
In addition, his side taking various anticipatory steps by direct monitoring in the field regarding efforts to eradicate mosquito larvae carried out by district and city governments.

"At the direction of the Governor, we also carried out mass mutual cooperation in all government offices (SKPD), and formed a team tasked with checking larvae in offices," he said.
