Bandung, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - South Kalimantan contingent losses it achievements expected in tennis and silat at the National Sports Week (PON) XIX 2016 in West Java.


According to Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Branch South Kalimantan Muhammad Welny, a medal had been expected in women singles tennis , but failed to get into the semi-finals, Sunday (25/9).

"We lost out to the host in women single, so no more hope to gain medal," he explained on Sunday.

Actually there were three categories South Kalimantan put into top eighth at the tennis match in Siliwangi tennis courts, Bandung, namely a women single, men's doubles, and mixed doubles.

"If we were get a win, a bronze medal be in the hand, but unfortunately all (of our players) were halted in their respective opponents," said Welny.

Similarly in silat sport, he said, South Kalimantan entered the final in men's doubles and ranks only fourth in the assessment of judges from six provinces competed in Graha Laga Satria ITB, (24/9).

"So we lost a medal here too, because there is no other of our athletes into the final," he said.

However, according to Welny, South Kalimantan still has big expectations to gain other gold medals in wrestling, horse riding and diving.

So far, South Kalimantan has collected 20 medals, namely seven gold medals, six silvers, and seven bronzes. The province now in the top 10 in the standings.

South Kalimantan sends 226 athletes to compete in 36 sports in PON XIX 2016 in West Java to the target to win 18 gold medals.
