Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Director of government owned tap company PDAM Bandarmasih, Banjarmasin, Ir H Muslih stated Martapura river water suddenly turns green tosca does not interfere with the production of clean water. The raw material of river water is still safe to be processed.
"Processing of water is not a problem with the condition of river water which turns green tosca. We can still process it into clean water for customers," he said here on Wednesday.
According to him, the condition is simply a natural occurrence. Martapura River as raw water for the taps often fickle, sometimes salty, sometimes acid.
Only, said Muslih, increased chemical substances is needed in processing the Martapura river water when changing levels, eg acidic or ph below the normal limit.
"So far the level of the river water pH is still the standard, no matter to be processed, because the current conditions we believe not because of sewage contamination, but likely only happen naturally," he said.
Meanwhile, the results of research by Regional Environmental Agency (BLHD) Banjarmasin to discoloration declared Martapura river water because of DO (dissolved oxygen) water shortage.
According to the head of BLHD Banjarmasin Hamdi, Martapura river water ph is still in a state of normal limit of 6.33, but the oxygen dissolved in it is very low at only around 2.43 ppm, should normally was 6 ppm.
"So it can be concluded menghijaunya the Martapura river water, due to the lack of oxygen in it. It's effect on the microbial life in the real river," said Hamdi.
