Sarawak Tourism Board is exploring the potential tourism of the City of Banjarmasin, and plans to invite the city for a promotion.
“We have visited (places in) Banjarmasin City, I see a lot of tourism potential that can be explored. I am also very interested in the floating market in Banjarmasin,” said Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Tourism Board Suriya Charles Buas here, Thursday.
Suriya said the observation and mapping stage provides mutual benefits for both Banjarmasin City and Sarawak.
“I am amazed by Banjarmasin, it turns out there are many stalls along the roadside. I also enjoy meeting with tourists in the city,” he said.
According to him, investment and business in tourism sector has the most potential to build between Banjarmasin and Sarawak. His sides will also consider business opportunities in other industrial sector in the future.
He said he will invite travel agent business people to Banjarmasin to map out what oportunities could be developed.
“We plan to invite Banjarmasin City to Sarawak to promote its tourism potential,” said Suriya.

Chairman of the South Kalimantan Board of the Association of The Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA) Dewi Restina said that her sides will explore all tourism potential to be introduced in Sarawak, Malaysia.
She wanted a continuous cooperation between Banjarmasin and Sarawak. This is supported by Sarawak's interest in choosing Banjarmasin as the third city in Indonesia after Jakarta and Balikpapan during its tourism visits in 2023.
Dewi also offered tourist destination of gemstone jewelry souvenirs to Sarawak tourists.
She said Sarawak tourists were attracted by the uniqueness of the floating market in South Kalimantan, which is considered to have cultural value where merchants sell variety of goods on boats in the middle of the river.
“South Kalimantan has many tourist detinations that we can offer to tourists. We are currently mapping out what sector we will promote as cooperation,” said Dewi.
