Balangan Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that a fire hit a 2.5 hectares land belonging to residents in Tampang Village, Lampihong Sub-district.

"We estimate approximately 2.5 hectares of residents' land that caught fire,” said Chief of Balangan BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC) Kudratullah here Saturday.

He confirmed that 99 percent of fire had been stamped out, while the underneath of the peatland was still wet.

Kudratullah said that the BPBD deployed an alcon machine with a hose length of up to 140 meters to extinguish the source of the fire. Community, TNI, Polri and BPBD's TRC  worked together to put out the fire.

Meanwhile, Lampihong Police Chief Iptu Eko Budi Mulyono said that the police will summon the land owner to be questioned.

According to Eko, based on experience, this area is peatland that is easily catches fire, especially since it has not been on fire for three years.

“So its like fuel, the possibility of burning is very large,” he said.

Lampihong Police Chief said that officers and village officials had actually anticipated the handling of forest and land fire (karhutla), because the area is flammable.

However, he said, the underneath of the peatland was still wet so it was quite safe and officers also confirmed that that fire had been extinguished.
