Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The rate of unemployment in South Kalimantan in February 2016 decreased 1.20 percent compared with February 2015 which reached 4.83 percent.
"The open unemployment rate in February 2016 was 3.63 percent or below the rate in February 2015 at 4.83 percent ," said Head of Social Affairs of South Kalimantan Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Agnes Setiawati in Banjarbaru, Thursday.
She said labor conditions in South Kalimantan in the beginning of the first half showed a positive signal for the economy with 2.05 million labor force.
Total labor force was reduced as much as 16.2 thousand people, down 0.78 per cent, when compared with the number of job seekers in February 2016 as many as 1.98 million people.
"Judging from the structure of the labor force the number of workers increased by about 9.3 thousand people or 0.47 percent, and the number of unemployed fell by about 25.6 thousand people or 25.57 percent," she said.
Three employment sectors most labor absorption are agriculture, trade and social services sector.
The agricultural sector absorbs most of the workforce that is 37.48 per cent, 24.47 per cent of the trade sector and 15.84 per cent in the public service.
"Total labor absorbed by the three sectors was 77.97 percent. In addition to the three sectors, employment is relatively high in building sector," she said
According to her, judging by employment status, about 62.65 percent of workers work in the informal sector, either on their own, assisted by laborers, casual workers and not paid workers.
"As many as 64.91 percent of workers in South Kalimantan is full workers, namely workers within one week of work for 35 hours or more a day," he said.
The quality of workers in South Kalimantan tends to increase with the increase of high school educated workers, although there are 48.03 percent of elementary school (SD).
"In the last three years, the number of SD educated workers has been down with the increase of workers with high school and university education," he said.
