Amuntai, South Kalimantan, 28/4 (ANTARA) - The government of North Hulu Sungai (HSU) continues to prevent further increase of new smokers to improve the quality of life and health of the young generation.


Regent of HSU Abdul Wahid in Amuntai on Thursday said efforts to prevent increasing the novice smokers among others, with local regulations on the prohibition of smoking in public places.

Regent expressed joy because the draft of the regulation on smoke-free area responded with a positive signal by factions in local council who suggest improvement in number of articles.

"We will seek to reduce mortality due to smoking and where possible to prevent an increase in new smokers through the application of this law later," said Wahid.

While a merchant of cigarettes, he said, must have a permit in advance from related agency (SKPD) if he want to sell in a smoke-free area.

"We also urge public locations which privately managed to provide designated smoking areas so people who are not smokers are not affected by exposure to smoke," he said.
