Pelaihari, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Tanah Laut District government in the near future will have a palm oil mill effluent (POME) Biogas Power Plant measuring one megawatt.
Tanah Laut Regent Bambang Alamsyah in Pelaihari on Wednesday said the certainty of Biogas Power Plant (PLTBg) development as the contract has been signed between the Ministry of Energy through Director General of New, Renewable, and Conservation Energy and PT Citra Putra Kebun Asri Jorong.
He hoped the construction of palm oil-based biogas power is capable of providing an additional one megawatt electrical energy for Tanah Laut.
It is not only to meet the electricity needs on Earth of Tuntung Pandang (nickname for Tanah Laut), he said, but also to improve people's welfare.
Separately, representative of Director General of New, Renewable, and Conservation Energy Trois Dilisusendi said PLTBg construction is one of the potential utilization of agricultural waste spread in Indonesia.
PLTBg development can be a solution for areas that until now still have no access to the PLN electricity, and if possible can be drawn into the PLN network.
In addition, he explained, PLTBg has several advantages, among others, can operate 24 hours, stable, reliable, and not influenced by the weather, as well as environmentally friendly.
He pointed out the electricity generated from biogas is relatively cheap, compared to fuels-based electric technology, such as diesel generators or diesel power plant (PLTD).
He said solid wastes from oil palm mills can also be used as environmentally friendly fertilizer, thus reducing the greenhouse effect.
PLTBg in Tanah Laut, he said, is a pilot project in South Kalimantan due to be built 75 points smart solar powered street lighting from the Ministry of Energy.
