Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - South Kalimantan provincial government warned the public to be aware of the possibility of landslides and floods during the rainy season which is predicted to last until May 2016.


Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Sugiono Yajie here on Thursday said it has mapped several landslide-prone areas in South Kalimantan.

The landslide-prone areas include mountains highway between Kandangan to Batulicin, which crosses the Sub-district of Loksado, South Hulu Sungai (HSS).

Then the Miawa Sub-district, Tapin, also Peramasan or Sungai Pinang in Banjar District, then Mantewe subdistrict, in Tanah Bumbu.

Furthermore, mountains highway between Tanjung to Balikpapan, which crosses the Sub-district of Jaro and Muara Uya in Tabalong. Then rural roads in the sub-district of East Batang Alai and Hantakan, Central Hulu Sungai (HST).

In addition to the landslide, some areas in South Kalimantan, also prone to coastal erosion, particularly in coastal areas such as in Tanah Bumbu and in some sub-districts in Banjar.

Based on the data, during 2016 to March 6, a landslide happened in Balangan, roads between Paringin - Amuntai, precisely in the village of Hujan Mas, Paringin, which led to four houses damaged.

In addition to landslides, floods are still threatening some districts in South Kalimantan, although the potential for flooding is not as big as in previous years, because of the intensity of the rain is not continuous, and some areas already anticipating flooding by dredging the river.

Some areas that had suffered floods in 2016, one of which Tabalong, causing seven sub-districts, 25 Villages, 1840 homes and five schools and one market, inundated.

Then, Balangan with three sub=districts, nine villages, 205 houses, three schools and three places of worship submerged. In North Hulu Sungai 10 sub-districts, 166 villages, 4,715 houses, 11 schools and six worship places submerged.

Recently in Tanah Bumbu floods soak five sub-districts, 21 villages and 814 hectares of rice fields.
